Growing up I often found myself hoping my dad would get home and spend more time with me and his family, but he was always busy. We moved away from him when I was sixteen and although I called him on the phone every Sunday for years, I always felt I was missing his love. Soon after we moved, I started looking for a father figure everywhere: in an uncle, a bishop, a leader in the church, or anyone who would help me feel secure and loved. The last time I spoke with him was on Christmas during my mission. We only spoke for a few minutes, but we promised after I finish, we would talk more and spend quality time together. He died a month later.
I became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because I found what I was missing, the love of an Eternal Father. In our scriptures the love of God is liken to a tree, so I painted my trees in a way that conveys the sheltering love of Heavenly Father towards his children.
